International Harvester Cub Cadet 124

Well, here is my latest project which I plan to have done by winter next year. This is a Cub Cadet 124, which features a 12 HP Kohler engine, dry clutch, drive shaft, and 3/4 speed transmission (depending on how you count gears, IH counts reverse as a "gear". The deck is going to need some work, but there are no rust through. The snow blade (my justification for buying it) is in good shape, never really used except a something to take up space in his garage.

The previous owner tried to "fix" a frozen kingpin in the front axle, by taking the steering wheel off, putting a big pipe wrench on the steering shaft, and breaking the steering box! He gave me a new steering box that he gave up on being able to install it. Cub Cadet steering boxes go in from the bottom of the tractor!

UPDATE (6-2004): I've got the steering and axle rebuilt and re-installed. I've got the parts for engine, and have it ready to start on. The engine will be redone following some of the plans under "Killer Kohler". I've also got the paint stripped, and the tractor in primer. I got some original color yellow paint and did not like it one bit so it is being refinished in "new" Cadet Yellow. And if one more person tells me that ain't original, I'm going to paint it John Deere GREEN!

These pictures was just taken today right after I picked up the tractor. Special thanks to Patty for driving me to northern Indiana to get it.

Looks like a lot of fun ahead! So much fun Patty made me go get a fresh tetanus shot before I could start with that "rusty old thing"
